CAPF AC 2026: Complete Exam Pattern and Preparation Strategy

The UPSC CAPF Assistant Commandant exam is one of the most sought-after defence services examinations in India. Here is everything you need to know.

Exam Pattern

The written exam has two papers held on the same day:

Paper 1 — General Ability and Intelligence (250 marks): Objective MCQs covering General Mental Ability, General Science, Current Events, Indian Polity and Economy, History of India, and Indian & World Geography.

Paper 2 — General Studies, Essay and Comprehension (200 marks): Descriptive paper with essays, arguments, reports, precis writing and comprehension.

How to Prepare

  • Master the syllabus first. Read NCERTs and one standard book per subject before touching advanced material.
  • PYQs are the syllabus. Analyse the last 10 years of papers — UPSC repeats themes, not questions.
  • Do not ignore Paper 2. Most rejections happen because aspirants treat the descriptive paper casually. Write daily.
  • Physical preparation matters. Start running and training early — the PET is a real filter.
  • Revise ruthlessly. Three revisions of one source beat one reading of three sources.
